Campaign

As the 2011 campaign hits the final few months, I can’t help but be reminded that the goals the community has set for this year’s United Way Campaign are lofty, but will, most likely still fall short of the need to truly meet the needs of our neighbors and family members in Smith County.  When you review the list of United Way agencies, it is impossible to not assign a face or faces to these worthy organizations.  Even if the economy improves, even if the government creates a new community support program, the needs that exist right here in the Tyler area will remain great.

I also think about what it means to give and for most people, this is a small sacrifice that makes a big difference.  Many of the dollars given to agencies are used for the direct services offered by those agencies but oftentimes these donations are used to qualify for additional grants and other funding sources where matching funds are available.  This approach truly lets your donation work doubly hard for those most deserving.  Each day, 365 days a year, a family or individual will need assistance from a United Way agency, shouldn’t those agencies be ready and well prepared and able to say “Yes” to the call for help?  I hope you will consider giving a portion of your resources to become resources to be used for the most honorable good – the benefit of our friends in need.
