Help Start A Campaign

STARTING A UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN AT YOUR WORKPLACE
United Way of Smith County raises funds each year to help support local programs that strengthen our community and the people who live here. We raise and distribute these charitable dollars to agencies that offer essential health and human services to improve the lives of everyone in our community. About 80 percent of those funds are raised through workplace campaigns.
A typical workplace campaign consists of:
- A short introduction by a community volunteer. Can be an employee of your company or one of our Loaned Executives
- A 7 minute DVD.
- An Agency speaker to share how your contribution is helping
- Pledge Forms and an envelope to be filled out by your company following the campaign
A typical presentation takes 20-25 minutes, however, this format can be modified to fit your needs. Some companies create a buzz through a barbecue or an employee breakfast. Others prefer a more low key 10 minute presentation in a break-room with no DVD or agency speaker. BENEFITS OF RUNNING A UNITED WAY WORKPLACE CAMPAIGN
Running a United Way campaign benefits both your company and your community. Your business benefits by:
- Increased employee morale and teamwork. Companies that run annual employee campaigns document higher morale and teamwork. Employees learn about services provided by United Way and work together to plan and engage in fun activities to raise money as a company: barbecues, giveaways, games, special incentives for givers like jeans day, or parking in an executive parking space.
- A healthier region. Our region benefits from healthier residents—even those not employed in your business. Your business will prosper more in a healthier region. Other businesses will stay here and add employees. Businesses outside our area will invest here if we have a well-educated workforce, attractive and safe neighborhoods, a strong educational system, a renewed downtown and social services that address and reduce health and human service needs.
- Tax benefits
- Community and media recognition
Our community will also benefit from your campaign by:
- Local focus. Your United Way gift stays here to help our local community. Our United Way supports a system of 24 local agencies in Smith County. Your gift provides essential services such as child care, youth programs, affordable health-care, help for those living with disabilities, literacy, crisis intervention and counseling, emergency assistance and disaster response.
- Wide impact. More than 60,000 people in our region are helped by these services each year. That's 1 out of every 3 people!
- Quality agencies. Our United Way ensures that your money helps fund quality agencies to address the most important community needs. Many local volunteers review agency budgets, programs and outcomes to ensure that our dollars have the most impact.
