Loaned Executive Job Description
Loaned Executives are company employees (not United Way employees) who work with the United Way staff to service and work with various assigned company accounts during the United Way Campaign season. The Loaned Executive is responsible for personally contacting and securing corporate contributions and/or employee contributions from each of their assigned accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend the United Way Loaned Executive training session and periodic meetings throughout Campaign season.
  • Become familiar with your assigned company accounts; know their prior giving history or whether they are a new account.
  • Make personal contact with all your company accounts. Personally visit the CEO and the ECC to secure their financial commitment and full support of the United Way effort.
  • Assure that each company contact is followed up with a second company contact or visit to secure commitment or provide assistance if needed.
  • Report the results of your accounts to the United Way in a timely manner.
  • Work with and assist the company’s ECC when needed.
  • Personally thank all of your company accounts and let them know the difference they have made in Smith County.

Time Commitment
Three days of training will complete the training portion of your commitment. We ask that you attend weekly meetings where you will be asked to report on your company accounts. You should be prepared to spend a few hours each week in fulfilling your United Way responsibilities and activities. Some additional time may be needed depending on your accounts.

Testimonial
I first got involved in the United Way Loaned Executive program four years ago, when a friend called and asked if I would be interested. What I found as I got into the program, was that there are great agencies under the United Way umbrella, and there is tremendous need in Tyler and Smith County. I also found myself working with other Loaned Executives from the community who were dedicated to its success. I became more and more committed to the campaign as we began to work on it. With this commitment, I learned more and more about the various United Way agencies, and truly believed in them. I still do. They do great work for those in this community who need help. Whether it is the Salvation Army providing a bed and a hot meal, the Literacy Council teaching adults to read, the Crisis Center giving abuse counseling, Opportunities in Tyler putting people to work, or any of the other deserving agencies, one thing is certain: the work they do raises our quality of life. Quality of life is one of the reasons we choose to live and work here in the Tyler/Smith County area, and any time we have a chance to make it even better, we should go for it. Being a Loaned Executive is a chance to not only give something back into the wonderful community, but to also make it better. What a great opportunity! I encourage you to join me as I enter my fourth year of working with the United Way of Tyler/Smith County  and continue to reach out and make a difference.

Coercion - A Reaffirmation of Volunteer Giving
The Board of Directors of the United Way of Tyler/Smith County, Texas believes that the most responsive contributors are those who have the opportunity to become informed and involved. Well-planned campaigns with an effective communications program, conducted by committed volunteers, will ensure responsive contributors.

While we have always been unalterably opposed to coercion, we do recognize a responsibility to state our beliefs formally as freedom of choice is a basic tenet of our democratic society.

With regard to all charitable solicitation efforts, the Board of Directors of the United Way of Tyler/Smith County believes:

  • Giving is a personal matter and a personal choice; whether individuals wish to give and how much they choose to give are up to the individual.
  • No form of coercion is acceptable, particularly if there might be any stated or implied effect on personal economic status.
